Lost and Found: A Lesson in Ego, Humility, and Letting Go

What started as a great recovery plan soon turned into a black hole, exposing every crack in my personality. I wandered aimlessly, feeling sorry for myself, desperately wishing for someone to come and save me from this mess.

Lost and Found: A Lesson in Ego, Humility, and Letting Go

This past week, I was reminded (again) of the power of humility. It was all about switching to listening and turning off speaking—or, as we say in Greek, just keep the ball down.

I’m far from being the most humble person on the planet, but I truly believe that humility is one of the most underrated yet essential traits a person can cultivate. It keeps us grounded, sharpens our awareness, and fosters meaningful relationships.

Now, my story comes off the back of an event that happened at work this week. A lovely friend and colleague—in a moment of vulnerability—felt humbled, immediately recognizing an element of an interaction she could have handled better.

Different context, different setup, but this moment triggered a long-forgotten memory of mine—one I wanted to share. Looking back, I can pull valuable lessons from my past self, realizing how far I’ve come from that version of me. At the same time, revisiting the situation helps outline some clear takeaways and a better course of action for the future.
